Greeting Remarks by Chair of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Kiwoong Yang

東アジア各国および世界各地からお越しいただいた皆様、

ここ韓国・春川（チュンチョン）の地で開催される東アジア日本研究者協議会（EACJS）2025年国際学術大会にようこそお越しくださいました。心より歓迎申し上げます。春川は「湖と学問の街」として知られ、豊かな自然と温かな市民精神にあふれた都市です。そして翰林（ハンリム）大学は、「研究と社会貢献の好循環」を理念に掲げ、学問的探究と社会的実践の調和を目指してまいりました。この地で皆様をお迎えできることを大変光栄に思います。

本年は特に、韓日国交正常化60周年（1965–2025）という記念すべき節目の年にあたります。
この60年の歳月を通じて、両国は文化・学術・人的交流を重ね、相互理解と信頼を育んできました。
本大会がその歩みを振り返りつつ、未来志向の協力と共存の新しい道を見出す契機となることを願っております。

本大会のテーマである「多層的変化の中の東アジア ― グローバルな挑戦の中の協力・競争・共存の未来」は、まさに現代の時代精神を映し出しています。気候変動、技術革新、地政学的対立、文化交流が複雑に絡み合う中で、東アジアは今、「協力」と「競争」という二つの軸の間で新たな均衡を模索すべき時を迎えています。学問はこのような変化を理解するための手段であると同時に、共存の知恵と持続可能な協力の道を示す羅針盤でもあります。本大会がその羅針盤を共に描く貴重な機会となることを心より期待しております。

最後に、本大会の開催にあたり多大なご尽力を賜りました全成坤（チョン・ソンゴン）教授（組織委員会事務局長）、および事務局の安正花（アン・ジョンファ）教授、諸葛在相（ジェガル・ジェサン）博士、柳叡率（リュ・イェソル）さんに深く感謝申し上げます。さらに、学会運営を円滑に支えてくださった The Pict（ザ・ピクト、代表全昌大）チームの献身にも心より感謝いたします。皆様の情熱と協力により、本大会をこのように意義深く開催することができました。皆様の叡智と連携が、東アジアの協力的な未来を照らす灯火となることを願っております。

Distinguished scholars and esteemed guests from across East Asia and beyond,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the East Asian Consortium of Japanese Studies (EACJS) 2025 International Conference, held here in Chuncheon, the “city of lakes and learning,” and hosted by Hallym University. Chuncheon is known for its serene natural beauty and its warm sense of community. At Hallym University, we strive to embody the spirit of “research in harmony with social contribution,”
bridging academic excellence with meaningful engagement for the common good.
It is truly an honor to host this important gathering on our campus.

This year holds special significance as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea (1965–2025).
Over the past six decades, both nations have deepened mutual understanding and trust through cultural, academic, and human exchanges. I hope this conference will commemorate that journey and open new horizons for future-oriented cooperation and coexistence in East Asia.

The theme of this year’s conference —“East Asia in Multi-Layered Transformation: Cooperation, Competition, and the Future of Coexistence in a Globalized World”—
captures the complexities of our time. Amid climate challenges, technological change, and geopolitical tensions, East Asia stands at a crossroads where cooperation and competition are not opposing forces, but intertwined dynamics shaping our shared destiny. In such an age, the role of scholarship is not only to understand these transformations but to envision wisdom for coexistence and sustainable pathways of collaboration. I believe this conference will provide a valuable platform for that shared intellectual endeavor.

Finally, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Professor Sungkon Jeon, Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee, as well as Professor Jeounghwa Ahn, Dr. Jaesang Jegal, and Ms. Yesol Ryu, whose dedication and tireless efforts have made this conference possible. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to The Pict (CEO Changdae Jeon) for their outstanding operational support and professionalism throughout the conference preparation. Thanks to their collective commitment, we are able to gather here today in such a meaningful way.
