동아시아는 현재 다층적인 변화의 소용돌이 속에서 협력과 경쟁이 교차하는 격동의 시대를 맞이하고 있다. 국제개발협력, 문화 교류, 기후변화 대응 등은 국가 간 협력을 촉진하는 주요한 요인이 되고 있다. 한국, 중국, 일본은 국제개발협력을 통해 개발도상국과의 관계를 강화하고, 글로벌 리더십 확대를 도모하고 있다. 또한 탄소중립 및 재생에너지 전환을 위한 공동 대응이 강조되면서, 환경 문제 대응이 외교 및 경제 전략의 핵심 요소로 자리 잡고 있다. 한편, 문화 측면에서는 한류를 비롯한 대중문화의 확산이 동아시아 국가 간 문화적 상호작용을 심화시키고 있으며, 문화 수용과 변용의 과정도 지속적으로 진행되고 있다.
East Asia is currently undergoing a multi-layered transformation, where cooperation and competition intersect in an era of profound change. International development cooperation, cultural exchange, and climate change response serve as key factors promoting regional collaboration. South Korea, China, and Japan are strengthening their relationships with developing countries through international development initiatives, expanding their global influence. At the same time, efforts toward carbon neutrality and renewable energy transitions have become essential components of diplomatic and economic strategies. In the cultural sphere, the spread of Hallyu (Korean Wave) and other popular cultural trends has deepened cultural interactions among East Asian nations, leading to continuous processes of cultural acceptance and transformation.
그러나 이러한 협력적 움직임과 동시에, 동아시아는 치열한 경쟁의 장이 되기도 한다. 미중 간 전략적 경쟁의 격화는 지정학의 부활을 야기하며, 동아시아 국가들 사이의 외교적 긴장을 높이고 있다. AI, 반도체, 디지털 경제를 둘러싼 기술 패권 경쟁은 각국의 경제 및 안보 전략에 변화를 주고 있으며, 글로벌 공급망 재편 속에서 국가 간의 갈등과 협력이 복잡하게 얽혀 있다. 이러한 상황 속에서 동아시아 각국은 경제안보를 강화하는 한편, 다자간 협력 체제 구축을 지향하고 있다.
However, alongside these cooperative efforts, East Asia is also becoming a stage for intense competition. The escalating strategic rivalry between the United States and China has revived geopolitical tensions, impacting diplomatic relations across the region. The ongoing technological hegemony race over AI, semiconductors, and the digital economy is reshaping national security and economic strategies. Meanwhile, the restructuring of global supply chains has added further complexity to the dynamics of conflict and cooperation among East Asian nations. In response, regional powers are working to bolster their economic security while simultaneously seeking to establish multilateral cooperation frameworks.
지금 동아시아는 '협력'과 '경쟁'이라는 두 축 사이에서 어떤 방향으로 나아가야 할까? 지정학적 갈등과 기술 경쟁이 심화되는 가운데에서도, 지속 가능한 협력과 공존의 가능성을 모색할 수 있을까? 본 학술대회에서는 동아시아의 현재와 미래를 다각도로 조망하고, 글로벌한 도전 속에서 이 지역이 나아가야 할 방향에 대해 심도 깊은 논의를 이어갈 것이다.
The crucial question now is: how will East Asia navigate between the dual forces of cooperation and competition? Can sustainable collaboration and coexistence be achieved amid deepening geopolitical conflicts and technological rivalries? This academic conference aims to explore the present and future of East Asia from diverse perspectives, offering a platform for discussing the region’s trajectory in the face of global challenges.
