Greeting Remarks by Chair of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Kiwoong Yang
존경하는 학자 여러분, 그리고 국내외에서 한림대학교를 찾아주신 모든 참가자 여러분,
아름다운 호반의 도시 춘천에서 열리는 동아시아일본연구자협의회(EACJS) 2025 국제학술대회에 여러분을 진심으로 환영합니다. 춘천은 ‘호수와 학문의 도시’로 불리며, 자연의 아름다움과 더불어 따뜻한 공동체의 정서를 간직한 곳입니다. 그리고 한림대학교는 “연구와 사회공헌의 선순환”을 비전으로, 학문적 탐구와 사회적 실천을 함께 추구하는 대학입니다. 이곳에서 여러분을 맞이하게 된 것을 매우 뜻깊게 생각합니다.
올해는 특히 한일 국교정상화 60주년을 맞이하는 역사적인 해입니다. 반세기를 넘어, 한일 양국은 문화, 학문, 인적 교류를 통해 상호 이해와 신뢰를 쌓아왔습니다. 이번 학술대회가 이러한 긴 여정을 기념하며, 미래지향적 협력과 새로운 공존의 길을 모색하는 계기가 되기를 바랍니다.
이번 대회의 주제인 “다층적 변화 속 동아시아 – 글로벌 도전 속 협력, 경쟁, 그리고 공존의 미래”는 오늘의 시대정신을 담고 있습니다. 기후변화, 기술혁신, 지정학적 갈등, 문화 교류가 복합적으로 얽혀 있는 현실 속에서, 동아시아는 이제 ‘협력’과 ‘경쟁’이라는 두 축 사이에서 새로운 균형을 찾아야 합니다. 학문은 이러한 시대적 변화를 이해하는 도구이자, 더 나아가 공존의 지혜와 지속가능한 협력의 길을 제시하는 나침반이라 믿습니다. 오늘 이 자리가 바로 그 나침반을 함께 그려나가는 소중한 시간이 되기를 기대합니다.
끝으로, 이번 대회를 위해 헌신해주신 전성곤 교수님(조직위원회 사무국장), 그리고 사무국의 안정화 교수님, 제갈재상 박사님, 류예솔 간사님을 비롯한 모든 분들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 또한 대회 운영을 세심하고 원활하게 이끌어주신 더픽트(The Pict, 대표 전창대) 팀의 노고에도 진심으로 감사드립니다. 여러분의 열정과 헌신이 있었기에 이번 학술대회가 성공적으로 개최될 수 있었습니다. 이 자리에 함께한 모든 분들의 협력과 지혜가, 동아시아의 협력적 미래를 밝히는 등불이 되기를 바랍니다.

Distinguished scholars and esteemed guests from across East Asia and beyond,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the East Asian Consortium of Japanese Studies (EACJS) 2025 International Conference, held here in Chuncheon, the “city of lakes and learning,” and hosted by Hallym University. Chuncheon is known for its serene natural beauty and its warm sense of community. At Hallym University, we strive to embody the spirit of “research in harmony with social contribution,”
bridging academic excellence with meaningful engagement for the common good.
It is truly an honor to host this important gathering on our campus.
This year holds special significance as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea (1965–2025).
Over the past six decades, both nations have deepened mutual understanding and trust through cultural, academic, and human exchanges. I hope this conference will commemorate that journey and open new horizons for future-oriented cooperation and coexistence in East Asia.
The theme of this year’s conference —“East Asia in Multi-Layered Transformation: Cooperation, Competition, and the Future of Coexistence in a Globalized World”—
captures the complexities of our time. Amid climate challenges, technological change, and geopolitical tensions, East Asia stands at a crossroads where cooperation and competition are not opposing forces, but intertwined dynamics shaping our shared destiny. In such an age, the role of scholarship is not only to understand these transformations but to envision wisdom for coexistence and sustainable pathways of collaboration. I believe this conference will provide a valuable platform for that shared intellectual endeavor.
Finally, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to Professor Sungkon Jeon, Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee, as well as Professor Jeounghwa Ahn, Dr. Jaesang Jegal, and Ms. Yesol Ryu, whose dedication and tireless efforts have made this conference possible. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to The Pict (CEO Changdae Jeon) for their outstanding operational support and professionalism throughout the conference preparation. Thanks to their collective commitment, we are able to gather here today in such a meaningful way.
May your wisdom and collaboration light the path toward a more harmonious East Asia.
